How Does Aquaform® Technology Work in Biofinity Monthly Lenses?
Aquaform® Technology is the core innovation that defines the entire Biofinity lens family from CooperVision. Understanding how it works explains why Biofinity lenses are consistently recommended for extended comfort across a full monthly wear cycle.
The Challenge Aquaform® Solves
Most earlier silicone hydrogel lenses required surface treatments or coatings to make them wettable — silicone on its own is hydrophobic. Surface coatings work initially but can degrade over the wear period, leading to progressive dryness. Aquaform® Technology changes the fundamental chemistry of the lens material itself.
How Aquaform® Works
- • Silicone and water-loving (hydrophilic) components are combined at the molecular level — creating a naturally wettable material without surface modification
- • Water molecules are chemically attracted and bound throughout the lens matrix — maintaining consistent moisture from core to surface without a coating
- • Silicone content is optimized to maximize oxygen transmissibility — Biofinity achieves a Dk/t of 160
The Result: Naturally Wettable, High-Oxygen Comfort
Because Aquaform® creates natural wettability at the material level, the lens maintains consistent moisture and comfort throughout the wear period without additives, surface coatings, or wetting drops — and without the degradation a surface-coated lens experiences over a 30-day cycle.
