Product Description

Overview

Air Optix HydraGlyde for Astigmatism contact lenses from Alcon are monthly disposable toric lenses designed to correct astigmatism alongside myopia or hyperopia.

Made from Lotrafilcon B silicone hydrogel (33% water content, Dk/t 138), these lenses combine HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix, SmartShield® Technology, and Precision Balance 8|4® Design to deliver consistent hydration, deposit resistance, and stable vision throughout the month.

These lenses are approved for extended wear of up to 6 nights / 7 days. They do not include UV protection, so sunglasses are recommended for outdoor use.

Recommended Replacement Schedule

Air Optix HydraGlyde for Astigmatism lenses follow a monthly replacement schedule. Each lens can be worn daily for up to 30 days with nightly removal, cleaning, and storage.

These lenses are also approved for extended wear of up to 6 nights / 7 days, depending on your eye care professional’s recommendation.

Important: Extended wear is not suitable for all users. Always consult your eye care professional before sleeping in contact lenses, as improper use may increase the risk of eye infections.

Key Features

  • Monthly Toric Lens: Designed for astigmatism with stable, consistent vision correction
  • Extended Wear Option: Up to 6 nights / 7 days continuous wear (doctor approval required)
  • High Oxygen Permeability: Lotrafilcon B material supports healthy, white eyes
  • Moisture Retention: HYDRAGLYDE® helps maintain hydration throughout the day
  • Deposit Resistance: SmartShield® protects against protein, lipid, and cosmetic buildup
  • Stable Vision: Precision Balance 8|4® design keeps lenses aligned during blinking
  • No UV Protection: Sunglasses recommended for full UV coverage

SmartShield® Technology

SmartShield® Technology creates a protective layer on the lens surface that resists deposits such as proteins, lipids, and cosmetics. This helps maintain a clean lens surface and consistent comfort throughout the entire month of wear.

HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix

HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix is designed to attract and retain moisture at the lens surface, forming a long-lasting hydration layer that supports comfortable wear for up to 16 hours per day.

Precision Balance 8|4® Design

This toric stabilization system uses balance points at the 8 and 4 o’clock positions, working with natural blinking to maintain proper lens orientation. This ensures stable, clear vision for wearers with astigmatism.

What Kind of Lifestyle Is Best for These Lenses?

Air Optix HydraGlyde for Astigmatism lenses are ideal for wearers who want monthly convenience with premium performance.

  • Astigmatism wearers: Reliable toric correction with stable vision
  • Busy professionals: Monthly lenses with optional extended wear
  • Dry eye sufferers: Moisture-retaining technologies support comfort
  • Active lifestyles: Stable fit during movement and blinking
  • Extended wear users: Suitable for those who occasionally sleep in lenses (with approval)

These lenses are especially suited for people who want fewer lens changes than daily disposables while still benefiting from modern hydration and comfort technologies.

FAQ

Air Optix HydraGlyde for Astigmatism Lenses FAQ

Can I sleep in Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism?

Yes. These lenses are approved for extended wear of up to 6 nights. However, always consult your eye care professional to ensure extended wear is appropriate for your individual circumstances, as sleeping in lenses that are not suited to your eyes can increase the risk of complications.

Is Air Optix for Astigmatism discontinued?

Yes. The original Air Optix for Astigmatism contacts have been discontinued. The current version is Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism, which comes in a 6-pack and adds HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix and SmartShield® Technology.

How long can you wear Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts?

These contacts are approved for daily wear for up to 30 days, or continuous extended wear of up to 6 nights and 7 days under your eye care professional's guidance.

How many lenses do Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts have?

A box of 6 lenses provides a 6-month supply for one eye.

How long do Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts last?

Each pair lasts 30 days of daily wear, or up to 6 nights of extended wear with your eye care professional's approval.

Are Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts daily?

No. These are monthly disposable lenses, not daily. Alcon does not offer a daily disposable Air Optix option specifically for astigmatism. For a daily disposable toric option, consider Precision1 for Astigmatism.

How many Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts do I need for a year's supply?

For a year's supply for both eyes you need 4 boxes — 2 boxes per eye. Each 6-pack provides a 6-month supply for one eye.

Are Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts available for both nearsightedness and farsightedness?

Yes. These lenses correct astigmatism alongside both myopia and hyperopia.

Do Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts offer UV protection?

No. These lenses do not include UV protection. UV-blocking sunglasses should be worn outdoors.

Can Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts be worn by individuals who don't have astigmatism?

No. These lenses are designed specifically for astigmatism correction. Individuals without astigmatism should use lenses designed for standard vision correction such as Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde.

How should Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts be cared for?

Clean lenses daily with a recommended multi-purpose solution. Rinse thoroughly, then store in a clean case with fresh solution overnight — never reuse old solution. Rinse the lens case and allow it to air dry. Replace the lens case regularly.

Can Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contacts be used by people with sensitive eyes?

HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix and SmartShield® Technology work together to maintain surface moisture and resist deposits throughout the month. Consult your eye care professional to confirm suitability for your specific needs.

Can people with high levels of astigmatism wear Air Optix toric contact lenses?

Air Optix toric contact lenses are available in a range of cylinder powers (-0.75D, -1.25D, -1.75D, -2.25D). For higher astigmatism prescriptions that fall outside this range, your eye care professional may recommend an alternative extended range toric lens.

Do Air Optix toric contact lenses require a special fitting?

Yes. Toric contact lenses require a more precise fitting than standard spherical lenses, as they must align correctly with your astigmatism axis to deliver accurate correction. Your eye care professional will take specific measurements to confirm the correct fit and prescription.

Do I need a prescription to purchase Air Optix HydraGlyde for Astigmatism 6 Pack contact lenses?

Yes. A valid toric contact lens prescription — including sphere, cylinder, and axis parameters — from a licensed eye care professional is required. WebEyeCare will verify your prescription according to current rules and regulations.
