Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde

Replacement Schedule

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses follow a monthly replacement schedule. Each lens is designed for up to 30 days of daily wear and should be removed, cleaned, and stored overnight in fresh solution.

These lenses are also approved for extended wear of up to 6 nights / 7 days, but suitability varies by individual. Always consult your eye care professional before wearing lenses overnight or continuously.

Silicone Hydrogel Material

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses are made from Lotrafilcon B silicone hydrogel, a breathable lens material that allows high levels of oxygen to pass through to the eye. With 33% water content and a Dk/t of 138, this material supports healthy eyes throughout the monthly wear period.

This balance of breathability and durability makes these lenses a dependable option for wearers who want lasting comfort without sacrificing lens performance over time.

SmartShield® Technology

SmartShield® Technology creates a protective shield on the lens surface, just a few nanometres thick, to help resist the build-up of lipid and protein deposits.

This protection also helps guard against everyday contaminants such as cosmetics, hand lotions, and environmental particles. The result is a lens surface that stays in better condition across the full month, helping support comfort and consistent vision.

HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix

HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix is a wetting ingredient integrated throughout the lens material that continuously replenishes moisture at the surface of the lens.

This helps maintain a moisture-rich layer for up to 16 hours of comfortable wear, making these lenses especially useful for people who spend long hours in air-conditioned offices, dry environments, or in front of digital screens.

Lifestyle Suitability

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses fit well with a range of lifestyles and wearing needs:

  • Busy professionals: Monthly replacement and long-lasting hydration make them a practical option for demanding daily routines.
  • Screen users: HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix helps maintain comfort during long hours of digital device use.
  • People prone to deposits: SmartShield® Technology helps keep the lens surface cleaner throughout the month.
  • Extended wear users: Suitable for selected wearers who have been advised by their eye care professional to wear lenses overnight for up to 6 nights / 7 days.
  • Monthly lens wearers: A strong choice for those who prefer reusable lenses over daily disposables.

Note: Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses do not include UV protection. UV-blocking sunglasses should be worn outdoors for additional eye protection.

FAQ

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde 6 Pack FAQ

How long can I wear Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde?

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde are monthly lenses you can wear for up to 30 days, provided you remove, clean, and store them appropriately after each use. They are also approved for extended wear of up to 7 days and 6 nights.

What is the difference between Air Optix and Air Optix with HydraGlyde?

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde adds HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix — a wetting agent that envelops the lens in a moisture matrix for all-day hydration — and SmartShield® Technology for improved deposit resistance, compared to the standard Air Optix Aqua lens.

Are all Air Optix contacts monthly?

Yes. All Air Optix contacts are monthly disposables designed to remain comfortable from day 1 to day 30.

How often do you change Air Optix HydraGlyde?

Air Optix HydraGlyde are monthly replacement lenses — replace with a fresh pair once a month. They are also approved for extended wear of up to 7 days and 6 nights.

How long does a 6 Pack last?

Each box of 6 lenses provides a 6-month supply for one eye. For both eyes you need 2 boxes for 6 months, or 4 boxes for a full year's supply.

How do these lenses support moisture retention?

HYDRAGLYDE® Moisture Matrix uses a block copolymer that embeds within the lens surface and tethers water molecules to the surface — maintaining consistent hydration for up to 16 hours of comfortable wearing.

What makes these lenses resist deposits?

SmartShield® Technology creates a shield just a few nanometres thick that resists deposits and changes due to cosmetics, hand lotions, and daily contaminants — protecting the lens surface throughout the full month of wear.

Are these lenses suitable for extended wear?

Yes. Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde are approved for extended wear of up to 7 days and 6 nights. However, this should only be done under the recommendation of an eye care professional, as extended wear is not appropriate for all wearers.

What vision problems do these lenses correct?

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde correct myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness) across a wide range of prescriptions.

Do Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses offer UV protection?

No. Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses do not include UV protection. UV-blocking sunglasses should be worn outdoors.

Can I wear makeup with Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde contact lenses?

Yes. SmartShield® Technology helps resist changes due to cosmetics and makeup removers. Always insert lenses before applying makeup and remove them before taking makeup off. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling lenses.

Can I wear these lenses while swimming or showering?

No. It is not recommended to wear contact lenses in water. Water can harbor microorganisms that may cause serious eye infections. If lenses come into contact with water, discard immediately and replace with a new pair.

Who is the manufacturer of the Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses?

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses are made by Alcon, a global leader in eye care with a heritage spanning over 65 years.

Do I need a prescription to buy Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde?

Yes. A valid contact lens prescription from a licensed eye care professional is required. WebEyeCare will verify your prescription according to the current rules and regulations.

Cons

  • It must be cleaned and sanitised thoroughly every night.
  • More expensive than daily lenses and not suitable for those on tight budget.
  • With prolonged use, the eyes are at greater risk for complications so caution is indicated.
  • Doesn't have any UV blocking capabilities, which means you need additional eye protection whenever you're outdoors.

Choosing a pair of contact lens can be a bit difficult but if comfort, hydration and breathability are what you are looking for, then the Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde is worth considering. These monthly lens is great for consistent care of your eyes.

Over the past months, we've tested these contact lenses with a range of participants to assess their comfort and performance. In this review, we'll share our findings, and what we learned during those tests, so you can decide if this upgraded version of contact lenses is a fit for you.

Material

Lotrafilcon B is the latest material used in lens manufacture, and it’s a silicone hydrogel material, with a high oxygen permeability, to help your eyes “breathe” – meaning a healthier eye surface, and it’ll stay white!

Also, Lotrafilcon B has a tear-like water content in the lens, and that’s why it’s very comfy. This next-generation material provides the right balance between stiffness and flexibility; this balance means that the lens is less prone to tearing, and will keep the same shape for the full month.

Hydration

Featuring HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix and SmartShield Technology, these lenses offer excellent moisture retention.

HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix is a breakthrough technology that acts like a magnet, trapping moisture on the surface of the lens, keeping the lens moist for up to 16 hours. For instance, working a 10 hour day can lead to dry and uncomfortable eyes, but these lenses are designed to keep you comfortable throughout the day.

And, since eye drops are a necessary distraction for many glasses or contact wearers, Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde can also eliminate that need.

UV Blocking

While many modern lenses come with UV protection, the Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses do not, which can be a major drawback in comparison with its competitors if you spend a lot of time outdoors.

UV radiation has been known to cause a number of serious eye abnormalities over time, so if blocking this kind of radiation is essential, you might be best off looking at alternative lenses as an option.

Alternatively, you could also protect these lenses with UV-blocking sunglasses so they provide adequate protection against damaging rays.

The absence of UV protection means you’ll have to be a bit more careful about adding extra protective measures when you’re spending time out in the sun.

Usage

These lenses are designed to be reused for up to a month or 30 days to be exact. They can be left in for up to seven days and six nights, and worn on a schedule that suits you but should always be cleaned and disinfected once a day.

Take note: lens care routines dramatically lower the chance of infections and make the discomfort much more manageable, which ensures comfort even over long periods of time

Comfort

SmartShield Technology adds a nano-layer of surfacing resistance to the lens that prevents make-up and hand cream deposits from sticking to the lenses.

On top of this, thanks to HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix, these lenses remain comfortable day one through day 30.

Research has proven these lenses have superior cholesterol 'rip-off' for both comfort and clarity.

And of course, the precision of design and high-water-content material means that the lenses feel comfortable upon insertion into the eye and stay comfortable throughout the day, minimising the chance of irritation and rubbing after extended periods of wear.

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde 6 Pack

Our Final Recommendation

Air Optix Plus HydraGlyde lenses have excellent moisture retention (a good thing) and are extremely permeable to oxygen (another good thing), which both result in comfortable and healthy eyes.

But they offer no UV protection and have to be treated with complete and careful cleaning rituals.

For average contact lens wearers, the advantages trump the disadvantages and these lenses are a pretty good buy for the money. If you're looking for a good, monthly lens, these could be it.
