How Does SMARTSURFACE® Technology Work in Precision1 for Astigmatism?
SMARTSURFACE® Technology in Precision1 for Astigmatism works on the same fundamental principle as in the standard Precision1 spherical lens — creating an integrated, high-moisture outer surface layer that maintains comfort throughout the daily wear period. However, its application in a toric lens comes with additional design considerations.
The Same SMARTSURFACE® Foundation
SMARTSURFACE® Technology creates a high-moisture outer surface layer — exceeding 80% water content — integrated into the Verofilcon A silicone hydrogel material. This layer maintains consistent surface hydration throughout up to 16 hours of daily wear, independent of the core material's moderate water content. The core silicone hydrogel matrix delivers a Dk/t of approximately 100 for healthy corneal oxygenation throughout the wear day.
The Additional Challenge: Toric Lens Comfort
Toric lenses are inherently more complex in design than spherical lenses — they must incorporate two different optical powers and include a stabilization mechanism. The SMARTSURFACE® outer layer in Precision1 for Astigmatism helps address the comfort challenge this adds by maintaining a consistently hydrated, lubricious lens surface. A well-lubricated toric lens reduces friction between the lens and eyelid during blinking, supports the smooth lid interaction that the stabilization mechanism requires for accurate orientation, and preserves the lens surface's tear film interaction throughout the day.
The Daily Freshness Advantage
The daily disposable format means each lens starts with a fresh, optimal SMARTSURFACE® layer every morning — unlike reusable toric lenses where lens surface condition can vary throughout the monthly or bi-weekly cycle. This daily freshness, combined with consistent SMARTSURFACE® moisture, gives Precision1 for Astigmatism its all-day toric comfort profile.
